Please consider this as notice of the upcoming Annual General Meeting :

  • Date – Friday May 24, 2019
  • Time – 6:30 pm (doors open at 6:15)
  • Place – The Art Centre (above the Library) 6975 Alberni Street Suite 215 Powell River V8A 2B8
  • The AGM of the Malaspina Art Society will be followed by a social and special keynote speaker Chris Cran
  • Refreshments will be served.
  • Memberships for 2019/20 are now due. Click here to renew or purchase a new membership

The following motions will be presented:

Motion 1

Whereas The Malaspina Art Society and The Art Centre have an informal relationship having similar goals and potential members; and as these two organizations often work cooperatively and collaboratively in delivering and coordinating programs; and as they share community resources;

Be it resolved that the Board of Directors of the Malaspina Art Society will investigate formalizing their relationship by way of an amalgamation or merger or other consolidation that would be beneficial to the Malaspina Art Society and its mission.

Motion 2

Whereas the Malaspina Art Society does not have an office of its own and currently receives mail at VIU; and as the Art Centre is more centrally located;

Be it resolved that the Malaspina Art Society will seek to change its official mailing address to 6975 Alberni Street Suite 215 Powell River V8A 2B8

Your experience in community and membership development, fundraising, governance, or finance is welcome….. as are your new ideas on how the board can create more community impact.
MAS is a place for celebrating visual arts, building community, embracing inclusion, and contributing to art education. Highlights include monthly exhibitions, family programming, annual Studio Tour, and guest artist workshops.
General Board Member Duties
  • Attend and actively participate in approximately 6 Board meetings per year, usually the first Tuesday evening of the month at The Art Centre.
  • Commitment to work with other board members as well as independently on assigned activities in an area of interest including but not limited to:
    • fundraising including grant writing
    • community & youth involvement
    • membership & volunteer development
    • governance
    • finance
    • programming
    • exhibition scheduling and preparation
    • social media
  • Attend exhibition openings and other events

“As Seen By Us”: Malaspina Camera Club Group Show

Opening Night: Thursday May 2nd 7-9PM

The Malaspina Camera Club is exhibiting member’s photographs in their 2nd group show at the VIU Gallery. Member’s varied interests are reflected in their beautiful imagery of local landscapes, wildlife, travel, portraiture, macro subjects and night photography.

What makes you stop and study a work of art?

How does a work of art transcend the mechanics of line and colour?

In this two day workshop, nationally acclaimed painter Chris Cran will lead participants through a series of playful explorations to help them consider their work from the eyes of the viewer. Expanding on fundamental techniques including colour, value, line and form we will discover how aspects of mark making and colour interaction impact the viewing experience. Artists will be encouraged to push off from their usual routine and try something different; to consider how their current practice can be elevated and, above all, enjoy experimenting with possibilities.

*All levels of painters are welcome *The workshop will move through many explorations in two days therefore only acrylic paints should be used.
