2021 Theme: Creative Self Portraits ~ Beyond the Selfie

Powell River, BC

July 22-August 7, 2021

Moving beyond our inaugural LGBTQ2S+ art festival in 2020, where we focused on the gradient implications of the ‘+’ within LGBTQ2S+, our ‘Creative Self Portraits – Beyond the Selfie’ themed show this year celebrates the queer self-portrait, as a way to further develop our local LGBTQS2+ conversation, as we strive toward greater queer visibility and understanding in our community.

This year we have 14+ artists presenting works and ideas that play with identity, gender and sexuality in a wide array of media. Our art exhibition is rounded off by an artist talk on opening night, a writers workshop, and a Q(uee)R Zine!

MAS News: Support Our Youth ‘Art Care Packages’ Program

Contact Lorna to donate at malaspinaartsociety@gmail.com

SUPPORT OUR ART CARE YOUTH PROJECT

The Art Care Package Project started during the covid pandemic. Families in the qathet region were struggling in supporting children with activities at home while in isolation.

The packages were prepared and delivered through Orca bus programming, Good food boxes, Art Centre, Tla’amin Health, community support programs and volunteer deliveries.

The packages include art by local artists, sketch books, art materials, textile arts, resources and thematic creative art projects. With generous support from community partners, business sponsorships and volunteerism, the project was able to support 130 families during 2020.

This year, our goal is distribution of 200 packages. Malaspina Art Society has the opportunity to match Art Care package sponsorship funding with an ArtsVest fund.

With every dollar over $200, the fund will be doubled and go directly into helping families in the qathet community.
